I’m going to redecorate my room.

Since I have a bunch of other New Years Resolutions that need tending to first, this is the rather tentative schedule of my process:

  • The weekend of February 4th- Initial cleaning out: Taking an incredibly hard look at all of the crap I have in my life and seeing if they’re worth keeping or not. Lots of trashbags, a few tears, and a buttload of allergies.
  • The week of February 6th- Ikea: Looking at new bedroom sets, something portable, something easy to remove and shift around. Wheels, preferably. Minimal bedding, one bureau, lots of bookshelf stuff.
  • The weekend of February 11th- Removing my bed: Yes, that means getting rid of my brilliant wooden bed that has a bunk bed on the top and drawers built in to the stairs leading up to it. Too much dust collects behind it, the drawers are there for storage of useless things, stuffed animals I don’t ever hug reside on the bunk bed, and my stairs are always littered with plastic cups filled with water, books, and other daily crud. Sleeping on the floor on my mattress until further notice.
  • The week of February 13th- Final decisions: Seeing which Ikea set I want/putting the order in.
  • The weekend of February 18th/the week of February 20th- San Fran: No work. Time to chill with my girlies.
  • The week of February 20th/the weekend of February 25th- Removing clothing from drawers and books, etc. Moving old furniture out. Cleaning (extensively, with water and other hypoallergenic cleaning products. And a feather duster, just for fun.) Move new furniture in. Decorate.

By March, at least, I’ll have started the new minimalist lifestyle I want.
